baguettes, baguettes, et baguettes

bonsoir (or perhaps bonjour, given the time difference)!

the past few days have been both exceptionally busy and exceptionally fun. i visited the georges pompidou museum of modern art (but only one floor of exhibits--i need to return at least three more times), heard a live jazz band in a café in montmartre, sat on the steps of the sacré coeur watching live music and dancing, went shopping at les halles, got VIP access to a swanky nightclub under the champs elysées where my friends and i saw a live french rock band...and even more. a lot of wandering and plenty of trips on the métro. paris truly is enchanting...i still can't believe i'm not simply on vacation.

my language classes have started, so i am sad to say i have had homework the past few weeknights. i'm in the second highest level, so the class is definitely not easy, but it seems to have proven rather useful already. i was able to enroll in all of the classes i wanted: a french cinéma class, a french theatre survey course, a class on media called "the word and the image," and a class at l'université paris VIII on gender and sexuality (some of the reading will be in english!)

i still haven't visited la tour eiffel, but our entire program is eating lunch in its expensive restaurant this coming weekend; i'm excited! i also have to choose between several field trips to attend this semester...i think i am going to pick giverny (where monet lived in normandy) and versailles.

i'm working on a post that doesn't simply list everything i've done but rather describes the city in more colorful detail; stay tuned.

miss you all!

it sure sounds like a vacation...you won't want to come back to Chicago let alone the pothole known as Ohio...

hey where'd you get the VIP passes...must have been from some frenchmen that thought they met some foxy American chicks..

lol

Hi Sweetie- It sounds like you're having a wonderful time and absorbing a lot of "culture" both visually and physically (duckling, turnips, etc). The visits to Giverny & Versailles sound wonderful. Monet has always been my favorite artist, be sure to take many pictures. Call home sometime soon so I can hear your voice. Je t'amie. Tu me manques.
